Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s economic performance continues to outpace global trends despite persistent geopolitical tension and technological disruption, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday, Airlangga emphasized that the nation’s 5.29 percent year-on-year growth in the second quarter of 2026 highlights strong structural resilience against external risks, including ongoing trade friction and geopolitical conflicts involving the US, Iran, Russia and Ukraine.

"Amid these conditions, even though various institutions project global economic growth to average just above 3 percent, Indonesia still managed to grow 5.29 percent in the second quarter,” the minister said.

Airlangga highlighted that the second-quarter growth in 2026 extends Indonesia's track record of maintaining economic growth above 5 percent for seven consecutive years.

The country's performance ranks among the strongest in Southeast Asia, behind only Thailand and Vietnam.

Regional growth figures showed strong performance across Indonesia's major island groups, led by Bali and Nusa Tenggara, which grew by 6.1 percent on the back of a robust tourism recovery.

Meanwhile, Java recorded 5.65 percent growth and contributed 56.4 percent to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

Indonesia's sectoral performance in the second quarter of 2026 was supported by targeted government initiatives across key industries.

The construction sector expanded by 6.68 percent year on year, driven primarily by the government's ambitious three-million-homes program.

At the same time, the manufacturing industry maintained steady growth, expanding by 4.52 percent over the same period.

The services, accommodation, and food and beverage sectors posted particularly strong performance, growing by 10.6 percent.

The strong expansion was supported by a broader recovery in domestic travel, alongside the implementation of key social programs, including the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which helped stimulate household consumption.

Looking ahead, Airlangga said the government will focus on accelerating capital expenditure, strengthening industrial zones, and expanding initiatives such as the Red and White Cooperatives program.
