Jakarta (ANTARA) - Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has pledged to streamline licensing procedures for investors developing modern dairy farms to accelerate Indonesia's milk self-sufficiency program and reduce the country's reliance on imports.Amran said the government is committed to facilitating investment by expediting all licensing processes so that projects can be implemented promptly and deliver benefits to the public.
"If investors need permits from the Ministry of Agriculture, our staff will personally assist with the process," Amran said in a press statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
According to the minister, the applicant can send their documents digitally to the WhatsApp information center to get priority.
The government invited domestic and foreign investors to strengthen Indonesia's dairy industry.
Indonesia, says Amran, needs at least 20 large-scale modern dairy farms to meet domestic milk demand. Currently, Indonesia is still dependent on milk imports.
Amran has inaugurated an integrated farming project in Brebes District, Central Java. The project, with an annual production capacity of 180,000 tons of fresh milk, or 20 percent of Indonesia's milk demand, is expected to serve as a model for the type of investment needed to accelerate the country's milk self-sufficiency program.
Amran noted that Indonesia still imports around 80 percent of its national milk demand, equivalent to between 3.6 million and 3.8 million tons annually, highlighting the significant investment opportunities in the dairy sector.
"This is an enormous opportunity. We are proud to see one of the nation's leading companies investing in the dairy industry. This is what we have been waiting for and what President Prabowo Subianto expects," Amran said.

Amran stressed the importance of strengthening smallholder dairy farmers as part of the national dairy ecosystem.
He said Indonesia currently has around 50,000 dairy farmers, while achieving milk self-sufficiency is estimated to require at least 100,000 productive dairy farmers.
Amran said the government, business sectors, and state-owned enterprises must collaborate to achieve the nation's milk self-sufficiency.
Additionally, Savoria Group Chief Executive Officer Ihsan Mulia Putri said the integrated farming project in Brebes reflects the company's commitment to supporting the government's goal of achieving national milk self-sufficiency.
"We are ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Central Java government, the Brebes District government, and all stakeholders to build an independent and competitive dairy industry ecosystem," Ihsan said.
The project will establish partnerships with around 5,000 farmers to supply forage for dairy cattle.
The company will also cooperate in fattening around 7,000 male cattle annually, and partner with at least 1,000 to 2,000 dairy farmers.
